William (Bill) Bebout passed away unexpectedly on November 5, 2024, after battling Alzheimer's disease for many years. The fourth of eight children, Bill was born on November 18, 1952, to Eloise (Titus) Bebout and Richard Bebout. He graduated from Mount Anthony High School in Bennington, Vermont. His family had lived in Bennington for just one year, having moved there from Massachusetts. It was an impactful year for Bill, as he met his first love, made lifelong friends, and landed one of his first jobs at Bennington Pottery. Later, Bill settled with his partner, Clare, in Somerville, MA, where they eventually married. In their final move, they relocated to Amesbury, Massachusetts, where Bill spent his final years.
Bill worked in the Radcliffe College mailroom for over 30 years. He was a well-read intellect with a keen wit, creative spirit, and vibrant presence. Bill was a talented photographer and artist, both of which were inspired and strengthened after living in Paris with Clare for a year. For decades, he was never without his camera and would spend long hours developing photographs in one of many darkrooms he created. The Radcliffe mailroom was filled with Bill's artwork. Six of his original pieces were featured in a Radcliffe Institute for Advanced Study gallery exhibit during the summer of 2010. When he was a young teenager, Bill channeled his trickster energy into learning magic; he became quite accomplished. Throughout his life, he dedicated himself to expanding his skills and entertaining family and friends. Funny and silly one minute, quoting Nabokov the next, Bill was a complex individual who brought laughter, wonder, and joy into the lives of many.
Bill is survived by those who love him deeply and are devastated by his sudden passing: his sister, Deborah Hackmeister, and husband, Peter, of Damariscotta, ME; his brother, Mark Bebout, of Parrottsville, TN; his brother, Brian Bebout, and wife, Lisa Trudeau, of Amesbury, MA; his sister, Joanne Maino, and husband, Mike, of Ipswich, MA; and his wife, Clare Vann, of Amesbury, MA. He is also survived by seven nieces and nephews: Sean Dolan, Michael Dolan, Devin Bebout, Lachlan Bebout, Oona Bebout, Jackson Maino, and Valerie Maino. Bill was predeceased by his sister, Linda Bebout, who passed away in infancy; his brother, Richard (Rick) Bebout, of Toronto, Canada; his brother, Gary Bebout, of Los Angeles, CA; his nephew, Milo Bebout; and grand-nephew, Ryan Dolan, both of whom also passed away in infancy.
Funeral services for Bill are private. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the Alzheimer's Association:. Arrangements by the Campbell Funeral Home, 6 High Street, Ipswich.
Rest in peace Bill. You will be forever missed.

I was a colleague of Bill´s at Radcliffe. We all loved him. I am so very sorry to learn that he was afflicted with dementia but will hold on to memories of him brightening my workdays during many years.

I knew Bill back in the 70/80's. He was always a spark of life, wisdom and humor. He is a force that still and forever drives creativity for many.
