William Becker Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by St. Mary Cemetery & Funeral Center on Jan. 8, 2026.
William "Bill" Robert Becker, age 102, passed away peacefully on December 29, 2025, in
Sacramento, California.
Bill was born on December 13, 1923, in San Francisco, California. He was the second of five
children. The family moved to San Jose when he was young and he was raised in San Jose, CA. He
graduated from San Jose High School and attended San Jose State University.
He was married to the love of his life, Elaine Alice Pereira, on June 1, 1943. Their marriage
spanned nearly 67 years until Elaine's passing on March 1, 2010.
Bill is survived by his sister, Patricia Pfeiffer, and two daughters, Carol Dickey (Larry) and Chris
Tyler (Tim). He was a proud grandfather to Jennifer Cunningham, Julie Blinston, Jamie Handling,
Sam Tyler, Max Tyler, and Bo Tyler, and a cherished great-grandfather to eleven greatgrandchildren.
Bill enjoyed a long and successful career with Longs Drugs, where he worked for 27 years. He
retired at the age of 55 as the manager of the Longs Drugs store on Piedmont Avenue in Oakland,
California, a role he took great pride in.
More than anything else, Bill loved his family. He also loved gardening and was an avid reader and
history buff. He also enjoyed attending Oakland As and Oakland Raider games. He had a pool
installed in the back yard which provided hours and hours of family time, BBQs, horseshoes and
was a main place for family gatherings. When their daughters were teenagers, the family enjoyed
boating and annual vacations at Clear Lake, where they camped and water skied each year -
traditions fondly remembered by the family. During their retirement years, Bill and Elaine traveled
extensively in their travel trailer, creating many treasured memories together.
Bill will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his curiosity and love of learning, and the full
and meaningful life he lived over more than a century.
