William "Bill" Larry Broome

William "Bill" Larry Broome, born on October 25, 1939, in Batesville, Mississippi, passed away peacefully at his home on September 3, 2025, surrounded by his cherished family. Bill lived a distinguished life, serving as a retired Executive for the Boy Scouts of America, where he dedicated himself to the betterment of youth through scouting principles and community engagement.

A memorial service for Bill will be 11:00 A.M. Saturday, September 6, 2025, in the Martin Willingham Memorial Chapel of Wells Funeral Home with the family receiving friends one hour prior to the service.

A beloved member of his community, Bill resided in Oxford, Mississippi, from 1983 until his recent return to Batesville one year ago. He was an active member of St. Andrew's Church in Oxford, where he found spiritual solace and formed lasting friendships.

Bill had many hobbies and interests that reflected his vibrant spirit. He was an avid fisherman and found immense joy in family gatherings, where his love for his family was evident. He worshiped his grand and great-grandchildren, finding profound happiness in their accomplishments and joyful moments. He also relished the time spent with friends during quarterly high school class suppers, showcasing his commitment to maintaining enduring relationships.

Bill is survived by his devoted wife of 64 years, Jane Carolyn Smith Broome, and their daughter, Melinda Broome. He leaves behind a legacy of love through his grandson, Will Turner (Lauren), and great-grandchildren, Marshall Turner, Dawson Turner, and Leighton Turner. He is also survived by his brother, Dr. James Carlock Broome (Hilda), sister-in-law Barbara Broome, and numerous nieces and nephews: Danielle Willis (John), Roxanne Brown, Lara Baker (Jason), Emily Keaton (Keith), Suellen Wood, Bart Broome (Christy), and Erik Ray Broome (Teri).

He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas Vernon and Eula Louise Marshall Broome, as well as his brothers, Ray Gilbert Broome and Arthur Vernon Broome.

Bill's legacy will live on through the lives he touched and the love he shared. He will be remembered not only for his professional achievements but also for the profound love he had for his family and his unwavering spirit of generosity.
