William C. “Bill” Manship, 84 of Harrington passed away at Bayhealth Sussex Campus on Wednesday, January 21, 2026 surrounded by his family. He was the son of the late S. Rebecca and R. Wilson Manship.

Bill proudly served with the 2nd Infantry Div of the US Army as a Sgt (E-5) infantry squad leader and training NCO. Following his time in the service he worked for the Delaware Trust Co. (now Wells Fargo) as a branch bank manager; Burris Foods in Milford, DE as a procurement officer; and spent 24 ½ years with the Delaware Dept of Transportation as an auditor and Consultant Control Coordinator.

In his spare time he enjoyed SCUBA diving with friends in Cozumel, Mexico, watching UD Blue Hens and the old Baltimore Colts football, Philadelphia Phillies baseball, and Boston Celtics basketball. He enjoyed fishing and playing football and basketball in high school and in the military. Bill was a member of the Delaware Mobile Surf-Fishermen, Inc (#1983), American Legion Post #7 (CKRT), a lifetime member of the Harrington Vol. Fire Co, and Calvary Wesleyan Church.

In addition to his parents, Bill is preceded in death by the grandparents who raised him, John L. and Bertha D. Manship; aunt, Sallie M. Campbell; and uncle, John Manship.

He is survived by his beloved wife of 59 years, Cheryl A. Manship; nephews John C. Butler, Scott Ryon, Garry Ryon III; and sister-in-laws, Beverly (Garry “Bill”) Ryon, and Cindy (Gary) Emory.

A Funeral Service will take place on Thursday, January 29, 2026, at Thomas E. Melvin & Son Funeral Home, 15522 S. DuPont Hwy., Harrington, DE at 12:00 PM (noon). A visitation will take place one hour prior beginning at 11:00 AM. Interment will be private. 

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Bill’s memory to the American Legion C.K.R.T. Post #7, PO Box 179, Harrington, DE 19952-0179.

Arrangements have been entrusted to the Thomas E. Melvin & Son Funeral Home, Inc, Harrington, DE.
