Stanley Manship, 76, of Newark, Texas, formerly of Afton, died Tuesday, October 14, 2025, in the presence of immediate family in Decatur, Texas. A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be 11:00 a.m. November 14, 2025, at Powers Funeral Home in Afton. Pastor Sheila Sutton will officiate. Theodore J. Martens V.F.W. Post #1797 will be providing full military honors. Burial will be at Greenlawn Cemetery near Afton. Open visitation with family receiving friends will be 10-11 a.m., prior to service time at Powers Funeral Home in Afton. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to the family to be determined. Online condolences may be made at www.powersfh.com.
Stanley Ray Manship, son of Leroy Dale Manship and Velma Louise (Edwards) Manship, was born on September 2, 1949, in Maryville, Mo. He attended Afton schools and graduated from the class of 1968. He later went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Navy from 1968-1972 as a Seaman, earning his national defense service medal.
While on leave from the Navy, Stanley was united in marriage to his high school sweetheart Joyce Parker, and from this union came two children, Shellie and Timothy. After his honorable discharge, Stan went to school briefly and also worked at an auto dealer. They later moved and lived in Texas where he did sandblast work on tanks, worked briefly for a paper company and finally, Tarrant County Sheriff's Department as a jailor, which he retired from. Stan and Joyce later divorced. He loved to hunt and fish in his spare time.
Stanley is survived by his ex-wife, Joyce Manship of North Richland Hills, TX, children, Shellie (Jeffrey Sr.) Richardson of Newark, TX., and Timothy Manship of North Richland Hills, Tx.; his parents, Dale and Velma Manship of Afton; 3 grandchildren, Kristian (Kenny) Wenink, Justin Richardson and Jeffrey Jr. Richardson, and 2 great-grandchildren, Zayden and Colton Wenink.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Ronald Manship.
