Fred Jagger, age 85, of Winterset, Iowa, passed away on January 29, 2026, at Madison County Health System after an extended illness, with his family by his side.
Fred was born on January 27, 1941, in Iowa City, Iowa, the son of Robert Sylvester and Ruby Lucille (Morrison) Jagger. He was raised in the Chariton, Iowa area and graduated from Chariton High School in 1959. Following high school, he enlisted in the United States Army and served his country during the Vietnam War.
After his honorable discharge, Fred returned home and on June 2, 1963, he married the love of his life, Janice Ilene Potts, in Creston, Iowa. He owned and operated J & E Brake and Alignment for many years before retiring. After retirement, Fred and Janice moved to Winterset, where they made their home for the past 20 years.
Fred was an avid outdoorsman who especially enjoyed hunting deer, pheasant, duck, quail, and turkey, as well as fishing. He was a former member of Ducks Unlimited and Pheasants Forever. In his final days, Fred found comfort in his faith and looked forward to going home to heaven and being with the Lord.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his parents-in-law, Gerald and Frances Potts; his sister and brother-in-law, Marge and Gilbert Egger; his granddaughter, Michaala Anne Conard; and his son-in-law, Robert Cady.
Fred is survived by his loving wife, Jan Jagger; his children, Kristi Cady-Carlson and Cindi Conard; grandchildren: Luke (Amber DeBord) Cady, Julia (Sopheak Men) Cady, Miriam (Greg) Hughes, Caleb (Ally) Cady, Faith (Paul) Carlson, Paul Cady, Seth Cady, Micha (Kyle) Eldridge, Jessica Conard, Lauren (Matthew) Jagger-Townsend, Kira (Johnny) Leto; great-grandchildren:Kylee, Morgan, Lexi, Ariel, Ian, Jiralya, Lily, Hunter, Elliott, Avery, Finley, and Sammy.
A graveside service with military honors will be held at Iowa Veterans Cemetery on Friday, February 6, 2026, at 2:00 p.m.
