William “Billy” Lee Wolfe, Sr., age 71, of Warm Springs, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, December 4, 2024 at Bath Community Hospital.
Billy was born June 27, 1953 in Hot Springs, a son of the late Julian Lee and Elsie (Stanley) Wolfe.
Over the past nineteen years Billy was employed with the Omni Homestead as a CDL transportation driver, a job he excelled in and was very proud of. There, he received countless awards and nominations, including: Employee of the Month, Employee of the Year, and Omni Service Champion Award. Locally, he was most notably known as the owner and operator of Wolfe’s Ambulance Service, which he operated for over twenty years, as well as Wolfe’s General Maintenance. Somewhat a “Jack of all Trades,” he had previously worked as a nurse’s aide, funeral assistant, as well as a sheriff’s deputy. Billy was a Life Member of the Hot Springs Fire Department as well as the Hot Springs Rescue Squad, where he served as captain for several years.
During his free time, Billy could often be found hunting, fishing, working on cars and trucks, or working in his garden. Additionally, he loved listening to older country music, caring for animals, cooking, eating out (where he would try different drinks), and traveling with his wife. Billy was also a collector of Coke and M&M memorabilia, as well as model firetrucks, and anything associated with The Grinch.
Billy will be remembered as a social person and one who never met a stranger. His caring and selfless nature was always on full display, as well as his love for Bath County and the people of the community.
He is survived by his wife, Debra Ann (Haymaker) Wolfe of Hot Springs; his children, Crystal (Wolfe) Campbell of Millboro, William Lee Wolfe, Jr. of Millboro, Cory D. Wolfe of Salem, Tiffany Wolfe of Richmond, Michael J. Wolfe of Hot Springs, and Rachel M. (Wolfe) O’Connor of Hot Springs; step-children, Gene Donald Smith, Jr. of Minneola, FL and Michelle Lynn Jenks Ping of San Jose, CA; brothers, Julian Franklin Wolfe of Williamsburg and James Robert Wolfe of Harrisonburg; six grandchildren; three step-grandchildren; his uncle, George “Eddie” Wolfe of Hot Springs; four nieces; a brother-in-law, Wayne F. Haymaker of Chesapeake; a sister-in-law, Tina Marie Greene of Norfolk; and a special friend whom Billy considered a brother, Dean Edward Spangler of Roanoke.
A Celebration of Life will be held 6 p.m., Monday, December 16, 2024 at Life Line Ministries with pastors Zach Royer and Donald Lee Altizer officiating.
