William "Dereke" Bungy, Sr. was born on October 13, 1959 to Judith Gaines and
adopted by her aunt, the late Marie Parker and late Alfred Bungy. He passed from
earth to glory on Wednesday, December 28, 2022.
William grew up in Wilmington, Delaware until high school, at which time he went
to live with his uncle, Lewis Parker, better known as Uncle Stoney
.
He then
became affectionately family with brothers, Keith and Kelby Smith, Bubby Smith
and Mel Parker and Jeff Tokley and sisters, Nancy and Rosamae Smith.
He graduated from Delmar High School and joined the United States Army where
he met his wife Renee. After being discharged from the Army, William worked at
Norfolk State University in Norfolk, Virginia and numerous other jobs including
driving for Carolina Trailways/Greyhound and Swift Trucking.
William is survived by: his wife, Renee Bungy; children, Monshaun Farlow,
Michelle Bungy Brown and wife Tamika, Wendy Bungy, William Bungy, Jr.,
Jordan Haygood and Andrew Webster; sisters, Dena Haygood, Apryl Overby
(Vincent), Diana Williams and Charlotte Robertson (Reggie Wells); brothers, Corey
Deville, Christopher Bungy and Silas May; several grandchildren and a host of
nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Leslie Eathon.
