William Oliver Butcher, 75, of Fulton, passed away on November 9, 2025, at Capital Region Medical Center.
He was born on November 26, 1949, in Callaway County to the late Roy and Ruby Mae (Salmons) Butcher.
William was blessed to share 57 wonderful years of marriage with his wife, Susan (Wilmsmeyer) Butcher, whom he married on May 17, 1968. She survives, carrying with her the countless memories they built side by side.
A 1967 graduate of South Callaway High School, William went on to proudly serve his country in the United States Army, enlisting in 1969 and serving during the Vietnam War until 1971. Throughout his life, William was known for his hard work and generous spirit. He worked for the United States Postal Service as a rural carrier for 20 years as well as working for the United States Forrest Service for 15 years. He previously operated a sawmill and spent many years farming alongside his brother and father. A true handyman, he was always willing to lend a hand to anyone in need.
In his free time, William enjoyed fishing, reading, and watching old westerns, especially those starring John Wayne. He cherished time spent with his family, especially grandchildren, who were the light of his life. One of his proudest moments was being honored to participate in the Honor Flight to Washington, D.C., recognizing his service to our country.
William's memory will live on through the love he shared, the stories he told, and the many lives he touched. Those that remain to cherish his memory are his wife, Susan; son, William Eugene Butcher (Amber), Bobby Belcher; daughter, Angie Butcher; sisters, Patsy Burke (Marion), Donna Hughes (Billy); grandchildren, Caleb DeBrodie, Samantha DeBrodie (Travis Adair), Ember Atkins, Aubrey Atkins, Roy Butcher, Russell Butcher; great grandchildren, Samantha, Gavin, and Levi, Sophia and Blake Adair, along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Keith Eugene Butcher.
Funeral services will be held at Maupin Funeral Home on Friday, November 14, 2025 at 1:00 pm with Pastor Mike Crowson and Pastor Bruce Williamson officiating. The family will receive friends from 11:00 am until the time of service at the funeral home. Interment will be held at Mount Caramel Cemetery with full military honors.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations are suggested to American Heart Association or Missouri Honor Flight, c/o Maupin Funeral Home, 301 Douglas Blvd, Fulton, MO 65251.
