William L. Butman

William L. Butman, 76 of Gloucester and longtime summer resident of Long Beach in Rockport, passed away on Monday, February 26, 2024. Born in Waltham in 1947 to the late Douglas E. and Ruth (Harris) Butman, he was the loving husband to Geraldine (Thomson) Butman with whom he shared 55 years of marriage.
He graduated from Waltham High School, class of 1965. After high school he graduated from Lake Forest College in Illinois with a bachelor's degree in biology and then from the College of William and Mary in Virginia, receiving his master's in microbiology. William was the microbiologist at Addison Gilbert Hospital for over 40 years. He truly enjoyed living on the shores of the Essex River in West Gloucester. His favorite times were spent boating and kayaking with family and friends on the back side of Crane Beach.
He is survived by his wife, Geraldine Butman of Gloucester; his son, David Butman and daughter-in-law, Rebecca of Seattle, WA; his daughter, Stephanie Swaim and son-in-law, Scott of New Port Richey, FL; his grandchildren, Ethan Swaim and Owen Swaim of New Port Richey, FL and Oliver Butman and Sydney Butman of Seattle, WA.
His visitation will be at Campbell Funeral Home, 61 Middle Street, Gloucester on Tuesday, March 5th from 4pm to 6pm. Relatives and friends are invited to attend. The burial will be private.
