A Mass of Christian Burial for William "Bill" Joseph Clapper, 93, of Newark, will be held at St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church, Granville, 10:30 A.M., Friday, May 30, 2025, with Fr. Timothy Hayes as celebrant. Calling will be held at the church for one hour prior to the service on Friday. Interment with military honors will be held in Greenville Union Cemetery, Greenville, 12:30 P.M., Saturday, May 31, 2025.
Bill, a parishioner of St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church, died at his home on Sunday May 25, 2025. He was born in Union City, Indiana on April 15, 1932, to the late H.F. "Bill" and Ferne (McCarthy) Clapper.
A graduate of Greenville High School, Bill served with the United States Air Force and was stationed in Germany during the Korean War. He studied at Earlham College and worked as a mechanical engineer for several engineering firms in Greenville and Columbus. Bill was also manager of the American Aggregates, Newark plant, and later Granville Aggregates
Bill was a classically trained pianist, a talent that he fostered from an early age. He also played the organ for St. Mary's Catholic Church at age 13.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 39 years, Carole (Thabet) Clapper; son, Michael Clapper; grandchildren, Caitlin, Brittney, and Courtney; great-grandchildren, Gianna, Eden, Nolan, and Georgia; brother, Edward (Toni) Clapper, and several nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Bill was preceded in death by his son, Thomas Clapper.
