William Doyle Cranney, known lovingly as Bill, passed away peacefully on October 27, 2025, at the age of 81, surrounded by his devoted wife and children.
Bill was born on February 7, 1944, in Washington, D.C., to Wyndon Doyle Cranney and Nettie Marie Peterson. He grew up in Orem, Utah, in a close-knit family of five siblings-one sister and four brothers.
During his years at Orem High School, Bill was on the track team, where he met the love of his life, Ann Kallas. They were later sealed for time and eternity in the Salt Lake Temple and built a beautiful life together. Bill and Ann were blessed with four children: Kim Houle (Kirk), W. Dale Cranney, Connie Miller (Roger), and Dean Cranney (Camille).
A proud graduate of Brigham Young University, Bill earned a master's degree in mechanical engineering. A creative and hardworking businessman, he began his career designing an inventive mail-sorting system which was adopted by the U.S. Postal Service. He went on to found Bill's Auto Parts, which grew into the successful ABC Auto Paint Supply in Orem, Utah.
A lifelong and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Bill's devotion was reflected in his love of service. He fulfilled many leadership callings and, together with Ann, served five senior missions in Nigeria, San Francisco, West Virginia, Ghana, and Cyprus. Their faith, compassion, and example touched countless lives across the world.
Bill loved his family above all else and found joy in the outdoors. Every summer, he could be found at Lake Powell, creating cherished memories with loved ones on the water. He enjoyed camping and backpacking with the Scouts, at one time serving as scoutmaster to 28 young men. A lifelong athlete and passionate BYU sports fan, Bill rarely missed a game and stayed active throughout his life.
Bill's legacy is one of love, faith, and perseverance. He will be deeply missed by his beloved wife, Ann; his children; 15 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; and a wide circle of family and friends who were blessed to know him.
In lieu of flowers, the family invites donations to Quarters for Christmas, a cause Bill supported wholeheartedly each year.
Funeral services will be held on Saturday, November 1, 2025, in the Lindon First Ward, 56 East 600 North, Lindon, Utah 84042 at 1:00 pm. Family and friends are invited to attend a viewing from 12:00 pm to 12:45 pm prior to the service. Interment will immediately follow the funeral service in the Lindon City Cemetery.
