Abingdon, VA – William Robert “Bill” Curtis, Jr., age 87, passed on Thursday, December 26, 2024, at his home. Bill was born in Forest City, NC to the late William Robert Curtis, Sr. and Chester Macy Wilkerson Curtis. He was a graduate of Cool Springs High School and a veteran of the United States Air Force. Bill earned his law degree from Wake Forest University and served as an attorney for over 40 years.

During Bill’s time in the Air Force he met his wife, Nancy Kilpatrick Curtis. Together they lived in Asheville, Charlotte, and many other places throughout the country while Nancy was a travel nurse before moving to Abingdon in 2006. It was here they became active members of Highlands Fellowship Church. Bill was a regular volunteer at the church food pantry, loved to read, and was a competitive bridge player. He will be remembered as a very kind, easy-going person to all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 48 years, Nancy Kilpatrick Curtis; brother, Norris Curtis; sister-in-law, Glenda Lowe and husband Danny; brother-in-law, William “Bill” Kilpatrick and wife Terri; and several nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 5:00 p.m. Thursday, January 2, 2025 in the Main Street Chapel of Farris Funeral Service with Craig Barber officiating. Committal services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 22, 2025, at the Mountain Home National Veterans Cemetery in Johnson City, TN. Military rites will be conducted by the United States Air Force and Chaplain Bruce Carroll.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Highlands Fellowship Church Food Pantry, P.O. Box 553, Abingdon, VA 24212, or to St. Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital, www.st.jude.org, in Mr. Curtis’ name.
