Mitchell Carroll Spivey, 83, of Rockingham, NC, left this life on Monday, August 25, at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

Born on October 13, 1941, in Rockingham, he was the son of the late Ernest Jones Spivey and Jewell Carroll Spivey. He was preceded in death by his brother, John Hubert Spivey, and is survived by his sister, Sharon Davis, and her husband, Lowell.

Mickey is survived by his wife of 57 years, Danell Skreen Spivey, their daughter, Julie Spivey, her husband, Chuck Whicker, and one cherished grandson, Gray Whicker.

He also leaves behind his two beloved "red-headed children": niece Caroline Thomas Goodwin and her family (Jerry III and Jerry IV) and nephew Scott Thomas and his family (Amber, Kegan McCarthy, and Laney McCarthy). Mickey will also be sorely missed by his loyal "puppy," Sunny.

A graduate of Rockingham High School (Class of 1960) and Wake Forest College (Class of 1966), Mickey spent his professional life as a small business owner. Over the years, his ventures included crane services, auto parts, and custom promotional apparel.

Mickey enjoyed riding his Harley-Davidson and cheering on the Demon Deacons. He was a devoted husband and father, and a doting grandfather and uncle. He was the friend you could always depend on, and his quick wit and sense of humor brought joy to all who knew him.

Memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Richmond County, NC. At Mickey's request, no memorial service will be held.
