William C. Darlington, affectionately known by all as Clayton, passed away peacefully in his hometown of Morris on June 3, 2025, at the age of 82. Born on August 11, 1942, to the late Albert and Zola (Hamilton) Darlington, Clayton's life was a testament to his unwavering spirit and the deep love he held for his family and community.
Clayton's journey through life was shared with his beloved wife of 61 years, Marian, who stood by his side as a beacon of love and partnership. Together, they raised a family that became Clayton's pride and joy. He was the cherished father of Kim Brandt, Scott (Lois) Darlington, Diana (Jerry) Cockream, and Danny Darlington. His legacy continues through his adored grandchildren Brittany, Aaron, Kailey, Hallie, Matt, Lillian, Eric, and JC, as well as his treasured great-grandchildren Brett, Presley, Caiden, Charlotte, Kinley, Kallie, Owen, Jurni, and Cade.
Clayton was a brother who shared an unbreakable bond with his siblings Tina Warren, Bonnie Farber, Gloria Vigna, and Dan Darlington. He is reunited in passing with his parents; his infant son James Darlington; and his siblings Wanda (Kenny) Sharp, Robert Darlington; son in law Brett and in-laws Curt Warren, Rev. Jim Farber, and Brenda Darlington.
A man of the community, Clayton left his mark on Morris when he purchased Farmer's Paradise from Hank Briscoe and transformed it into Clayton's Tap, a hub where friends could gather to share stories and laughter. His generosity knew no bounds; if anyone was in need of a meal or a place to stay, Clayton was there without hesitation, offering a hand with a warm smile.
Clayton's interests were as diverse as his abilities. Known for his spectacular dives from the high dive, he had a knack for captivating audiences with his charisma and enthralling tales. A sports enthusiast, he enjoyed watching motorcycle races, cheering on the Morris Redskins and the Chicago Bears, and engaging in a round of golf or a game of pool. Clayton's love for a friendly wager was well-known among his circle, and his protective nature over his family was both fierce and tender.
His presence was a source of strength and joy for all who knew him. Clayton's stories, laughter, and love will continue to resonate in the hearts of his family and friends.
A visitation for Clayton will be held on Saturday, June 7, 2025, from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at the UC Davis-Callahan Funeral Home in Morris. A celebration of Clayton's life will follow at 12:00 pm, officiated by Pastor Kathy Watland. He will be laid to rest at Lisbon Cemetery.
