After a brief illness, William John De Angelis ("Bill") departed this life on August 1, 2024, at Tallahassee Memorial Hospital under the care of The Big Bend Hospice. Bill was born in Allentown, PA on August 13, 1946, to Herman and Isabelle Schuster DeAngelis. Bill had a bright and inquisitive mind and possessed a deep passion for education and research. He graduated from Central Catholic High School in Allentown, PA, going on to earn a B.S. in Psychology from LaSalle University in Philadelphia, PA. He later moved to Athens, Georgia to continue his education at the University of Georgia, earning a Ph.D. in Biopsychology.
In 1970, Bill married the late Mary Davis DeAngelis, Ph.D. He taught psychology at Erskine College in Due West, SC for nine years after which he moved to Atlanta, GA to earn a Juris Doctorate at the Emory University School of Law. Bill become a member of the Georgia Bar and opened a private law practice in Decatur, GA.
Following the loss of his wife Mary after her extended illness, Bill returned to his love of teaching psychology, joining the faculty of Reinhardt University in Waleska, GA where he remained for thirteen years, serving as the Dean of the School of Math and Sciences.
In 2001, Bill married "Betty" (Elizabeth) Edenfield Piephoff at the First Presbyterian Church in Atlanta, GA. He was a loving husband and dearest friend to Betty and acted as a kind and patient father to her adult daughter, Erin, who has Autism and early onset Alzheimer's disease. He is predeceased by his parents and younger brother, David and his late wife. He is survived by his wife, Betty and her daughter, Erin Piephoff of Tallahassee, FL, sister and brother-in-law, Jeanette DeAngelis Wexler and John Wexler, nephew Michael (Jennifer) Wexler and niece, Valerie Wexler Lumer, all of Quakertown, PA.
Funeral service will be held at St. Peter's Anglican Cathedral on August 13 at 2:00 pm. Bill will forever live in the hearts of those who knew and loved him. The profound sadness and void felt by his passing can only be filled by God's loving kindness and His tender mercies.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Peter's Anglican Cathedral or Reinhardt University in Waleska, GA.

I remember bill (and Betty) from our time as neighbors in Atlanta, with Bill "wearing" Vito the Maine Coon cate on his head like a fur cap!
