William "Bill" Davis Dickens, 88, passed away on November 3, 2024, surrounded by love. Born on November 24, 1935, in Lexington, Kentucky, to the late Ben and Louise Dickens. William lived a life filled with faith, dedication, and joy. He was predeceased by his wife Roberta Purcell Dickens and his son David Dickens.
He took joy in his Children and Grandchildren and was a great Father and example to his family. He loved fishing, sports, and time with friends from his childhood, and more recent acquaintances. He refereed High School football for over 25 years.
He was charitable spending time reading and visiting residents of the Veterans Home in Wilmore. He always found time for his family and others and raised his children in a Christian Home. He served on numerous Boards and contributed to the founding of several churches in the Lexington area. Bill was a member of Edgewood Baptist Church a devoted servant of the Lord, his unwavering love for the Lord, which was reflected in his every action and interaction. His strong work ethic and integrity to his professional life.
He began his career as a coach and teacher, worked in Human Resources, Insurance and was an entrepreneur doing the things he loved till shortly before his passing.
William truly enjoyed every moment life had to offer, finding happiness in the simple joys and moments shared with his loved ones.
William is survived by his son, Brian Davis (Paula) Dickens, his sweetheart Meda Cooper, his brother Ben (Kay) Dickens, his grandchildren Kasey Dickens, Davis Dickens, Grace Dickens, and Max Dickens, his great-grandchild Taylinn Dickens, his daughter-in-law Jennifer Dickens, his niece Virginia Dickens and his bonus family Ashley (Chris) Sargent and Alene and Mike Hirz.
A memorial service to honor and celebrate his life will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, November 11, 2024, at the Edgewood Baptist Church, Nicholasville. A reception to share cherished memories at the home of his son Brian Dickens following the service.
William will be dearly missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him, but his memory and legacy will live on in the hearts of those who loved him. May he rest in peace, surrounded by the love and grace of the Lord he so faithfully served.
In lieu of flowers, Bill had a heart for Veterans, and memorial donations are suggested to Wounded Warriors. An online guestbook is available at www.stithcares.com.
