William J. Dignan 85, of Highland Lakes, NJ passed away peacefully at Chilton Medical Center on Friday, June 20, 2025.
William was born in Brooklyn, N.Y. to his Irish immigrant parents, the late William and Anne (Green) Dignan. He graduated from St. John's University and post-graduation proudly joined and served in the Navy Reserves. William was a Certified Public Accountant and enjoyed a 45 year career with the U.S. Treasury Department as an International Tax Examiner in the Internal Revenue Service.
He and his late wife, Catherine, moved to the Highland Lakes section of Vernon Township in 1972 where they raised their family. William and Catherine shared a tremendous love for one another and were married for 47 wonderful years. William was an avid reader, a history buff, and enjoyed a commitment to lifelong learning. He was a devoted and faithful member of Our Lady of Fatima RC Church and served the parish as a trustee. Bill was a passionate fan of the Brooklyn Dodgers, and then the New York Mets. He was extremely proud of his Irish heritage. In his spare time, William could be found working on the NY Times crossword puzzle, making shopping trips to Costco, and taking his grandchildren to the lake.
Predeceased by his parents, and his beloved wife Catherine (Murphy) Dignan, William is survived by his adored children, William Dignan (Sandra), Richard Dignan (Christine), and Veronica Corbutt (Paul). Bill was a cherished grandfather to Ryan, Colin, Matthew (Annie), Courtney and Allie Dignan and Liam, Maggie, Owen and Kieran Corbutt. Dear brother of Maureen Reilly. Cherished uncle to many nieces and nephews.
