William Drummond Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Duyck & VanDeHey Funeral Home - Forest Grove on Dec. 17, 2025.
William (Bill) S. Drummond, 86, a resident of the Forest Grove community, passed away Monday evening, November 17, 2025, at West Haven Adult Care Home.

Bill was born on November 25, 1938, in Ottumwa, IA, the oldest of four children born to William E. Drummond and Lillian A. (Isaacson) Drummond. He lived with his family in Agency and Selma, IA and briefly in St. Louis, MO before moving to Fairfax, CA where he graduated from Drake High School in 1956. Bill went on to complete a Bachelor's degree in Engineering from Heald's College and had a long and successful career as an electronics engineer working first at Quantix in the Bay Area of California, then at Tektronix in Beaverton, OR, and retiring from SRC Vision in Medford, OR.

He met his future wife, Kathleen (Kathy) Ecsi when they both lived in the same apartment building in the Bay Area. They met in the laundry room on Valentine's day and married three months later on May 21, 1964. Several years later they moved to Half Moon Bay, CA where they lived for five years before moving to Hillsboro, OR when Bill accepted an engineering job at Tektronix. In 1978 they bought several acres in the Roy, OR area where they built a house and settled for many years. In 1992, they moved to Rogue River, OR when Bill took a job at SRC Vision from which he retired in 2005. Several years later they moved to Forest Grove, OR.

Bill achieved several patents for his engineering work at Tektronix. He was a member of ARRL HAM radio league, and a voracious reader, particularly interested in World War II, railroads, and vintage westerns. He was a lifelong learner, always interested in researching and educating himself on specific topics of interest. He spent the last several years of his life working on designing and engineering a double-loop antenna system for his HAM radio.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Kathy Drummond, sister Mary Lee Drummond, brother Robert (Bob) Drummond, and parents Bill and Lillian Drummond.

He is survived by sister Betty Ann Pearson, daughter and son-in-law Margaret (Drummond) Bail and Darin Bail of Moorhead, MN, and daughter and son-in-law Jennifer (Drummond) Cole and Eric Cole of Portland, OR, as well as six grandchildren, with one great-grandchild on the way.

The family suggests donations in Bill's name to one of his favorite charities: World Wildlife Federation, Wounded Warriors Project, ASPCA, Natural Resources Defense Council, the Nature Conservancy, or Doctors Without Borders.
