William R. Eckner, 62, passed away at him home in Somerville on Sunday, November 27, 2022. Born in Plainfield, NJ on November 6, 1960 to the late Richard "Dick" and Mary Lou Eckner, he grew up in Martinsville.
Bill was a graduate of Bridgewater-Raritan Regional High School, Class of 1979. He was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, having served for four years after high school in Germany and Texas. Upon his honorable discharge from the service, he went on the graduate from Trenton State in 1987.
Bill had a successful and long career in the hospitality industry. He worked at local hotspots, such as Chatfield's, McCormick & Schmick's, and The Pluckemin Inn.
He was predeceased by his parents. Surviving are his sister, Barbara Ann Eckner and her daughter, Anthea Gray; his sister, Cindy Rowe and her husband, Kevin Rowe and their son, Gehrig Rowe; his former wife and dear friend, Jennifer Eckner; his aunts and uncles, Sally & Steve Holub and Judy & Tom Kintigh; and many cousins.
A Memorial Gathering will be held at Memorial Funeral Home, 155 South Ave., Fanwood on Tuesday, December 6th from 10AM to 12noon. A service will begin at 12noon. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in his memory to the Plainfield Area Humane Society or to the Wounded Warrior Project.
