William Ewer Obituary
William H. Ewer, known as Bill, passed away on November 30, 2025, in Beaufort, SC, just three days shy his 83rd birthday.
Born in Brooklyn, NY, Bill's family moved to Haworth, NJ, in 1952. His summers were spent on the North Fork of Long Island in Peconic, where he developed a lifelong love of sailing, fishing, and the bay-passions he would later share with his daughter and granddaughter.
After graduating from Northern Regional Valley High School, Bill earned his fine arts degree from the University of Bridgeport in 1965. He proudly served his country completing Navy's Officer Candidate School and achieving the rank of Lieutenant Commander in the Navy before his honorable discharge in 1969 and later continuing his service in the Navy Reserves.
While stationed in Virginia Beach, VA, Bill met Carol, a schoolteacher who would become his beloved wife. They married in Haworth on June 22, 1968, and welcomed their daughter, Jennifer Irene, in April 1970.
Bill built a successful career in advertising, working for prestigious agencies as an account supervisor at Young & Rubicam and Vice President at Wells Rich Greene in New York City. In 1977, he moved his family to Los Angeles, CA, and then to Laguna Beach in 1979, where he continued his entrepreneurial endeavors. In 1999, Bill and Carol settled in Capistrano Beach, CA, where they took their walks and proximity to the ocean. Bill and Carol would often ride their bikes in Dana Point Harbor watching the water and their granddaughter sail.
A talented cook who learned from his mother, Bill taught his daughter to cook and prepare meals for the family. His greatest joy came in 2006 with the birth of his granddaughter Kate, his shining star. He beamed with pride when she learned to sail, continuing the family tradition he so loved.
When his health began to decline in late 2024, Bill and Carol, along with their cat, Marmalade, made the move to Beaufort in June 2025 to be near Jennifer's family. He treasured those final months surrounded by loved ones and enjoying his daughter's cooking.
Bill is survived by his devoted wife of 57 years, Carol; his daughter and son-in-law, Jennifer and Tony Pointer; his cherished granddaughter Kate; and his sisters, Ann Fay and Laura Lloyd. He was preceded in death by his parents, Robert C. and Agneta H. Ewer.
