William Feigenbaum Obituary

Feigenbaum, William M. "Bill"

May 5, 1941 - Dec 6, 2025

With very heavy hearts, we announce the sudden passing of William (Bill) Michael Feigenbaum on December 6, 2025, at age 84, in Buffalo, New York. Bill was the beloved husband for 57 years of Janice Cooke Feigenbaum; devoted father of James Feigenbaum (Delphine Tsinajinnie), and Paul Feigenbaum; and doting grandfather of Rafael Feigenbaum, all of whom share his passion for inquiry. He is also survived by loving brothers-in-law/sisters-in-law, nieces and nephews. Born in the Bronx on May 5, 1941, he was the son of Joseph Feigenbaum and Edna Kerner Feigenbaum. He was predeceased by a younger brother, David Feigenbaum. Bill was a proud graduate of the Bronx High School of Science in 1958, and a lifelong fan of the New York Yankees, attending many games when Mickey Mantle played. During the age of Sputnik, he chose to pursue baccalaureate, masters and doctor of philosophy degrees in Organic Chemistry at New York University. In 1967, he moved to Buffalo, New York to work as a Research Chemist at Dupont's Yerkes Research Center in Tonawanda, New York. He then decided to study law at the State University of New York at Buffalo. While a law student, he began clerking at the Buffalo firm of Lipsitz, Green, Fahringer, Roll, Schuller and James (now Lipsitz, Green, Scime & Cambria). After graduating in 1973 and being admitted to the New York State Bar in 1974, he remained at the firm as an associate, junior and then senior partner. Bill's legal career focused on doing research in the areas of corporate litigation, First Amendment issues, and intellectual property. He was best known in the firm for his work ethic, love of mentoring law clerks and associates, deep research into case law, piles of papers in his messy office, and for always listening to classical music. He retired in 2015. Since then, he and his wife enjoyed traveling, especially to Miami, Monument Valley and to see the Wasatch mountains in Utah. He also spent time learning about astrophysics and following Supreme Court decisions. Soon after he moved to Buffalo, he became and remained obsessed with the Bills. A private Memorial Service was held at the John E. Roberts Funeral Home, 280 Grover Cleveland Highway, Buffalo, on Monday, December 8, 2025. A Celebration of Life will be held in the spring of 2026. Online condolences and memories may be shared www.jerfh.com. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Buffalo Toronto Public Media. In Bill's memory, always remember that, as proclaimed by Carl Sagan, "Somewhere, something incredible is waiting to be known.

Gosh, it has been decades since I've seen him, but i remember with such fondness how nice and generous he was to us law clerks at the firm, then known as Lipsitz, Green... My sincere condolences to his family.
