William Freeman Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Green Country Funeral Home on Oct. 23, 2025.

William Benton "Dub" Freeman, 90, of Tahlequah, Oklahoma, passed away peacefully on Monday, October 20, 2025. He was born on August 29, 1935, in Hulbert, Oklahoma, to Emmit Joseph Freeman and Rosa (Poindexter) Freeman.
Dub was preceded in death by his loving wife, Callie Mae Freeman, and his parents. He is survived by his children, William Benton "Bill" Freeman Jr. and Janet L. Wood; his grandchildren, Matthew Wood, Stephanie Freeman, William Freeman, and Zackary Wood; and his great-grandchildren, Jackson Wood and Theo Wood.
Dub spent most of his career doing what he loved-baking. He served for many years as the head baker at Northeastern State University, where his famous donuts and cakes earned him a nomination for Employee of the Year by the football team. His work fed hundreds, but more importantly, it brought joy to the students and staff who knew him.
Those who knew Dub in his younger years remember his love for cars-especially the impressive ones he proudly drove before eventually trading them all for a humble Volkswagen Beetle. Over the years, his interests changed, but one thing remained constant: his devotion to Callie. Wherever she went, Dub was there too-usually finding the perfect bench to sit and wait while she shopped.
He was a proud member of the Masonic Lodge and the Shriners, and he carried their values of friendship, charity, and service throughout his life.
Dub had a gift for giving people a hard time in the most loving way. He never met a stranger and could make a new friend anywhere. He adored his family and was always ready to build the next Christmas gift, fix whatever needed fixing, or tackle any "honey-do" list Callie handed him-without hesitation.
