William P. "Bill" Gannon, beloved husband, father, and grandfather, passed away peacefully on August 8, 2025. Born in Detroit, Bill was the cherished only child of the late Peter and Lillian Gannon.

Bill was all about faith, family, and friends. A devoted Catholic and the quintessential Irishman, he found joy in life's simple blessings-big gatherings filled with laughter, storytelling, and the warmth of loved ones. For years, he could be found at Detroit Tigers Opening Day and the St. Patrick's Day Parade, traditions that brought him great joy and connected him to the city he loved. Larger than life, Bill lived each day to the fullest, embracing every moment with humor, warmth, and an open heart.

College football was always a crazy time, with Notre Dame being Bill's favorite team, though he had Wolverines and Spartan fans in the family-making for spirited, good-natured rivalry and plenty of fun.

He was incredibly proud of his children and grandchildren and loved keeping up on their activities and accomplishments. He especially loved being G-pa, cherishing every moment spent with Connor and Claire.

He is survived by his loving wife of 63 years, Margaret Mary (née Irish) Gannon; his children Siobhan Gannon, Sheila Gannon, Patrick (Theresa) Gannon, and Michael Gannon; his treasured grandchildren, Connor and Claire Gannon; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins. He also leaves behind a lifetime of friends. His unwavering love, generosity of spirit, and deep faith touched all who knew him.

A visitation will be held on Tuesday, August 12th, from 4:00 to 8:00 pm at Lynch & Sons Funeral Home in Clawson. The Funeral Mass will be celebrated Wednesday, August 13th, 10:30 am at Christ, Our Light, Catholic Church in Troy. Friends may visit beginning at 10:00 am. The burial will take place the following day in Great Lakes National Cemetery in Holly.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to The Solanus Casey Center in Detroit.

Special thanks to all the Angels at American House Elmwood, The Medical Team and Heart to Heart Hospice for giving Bill incredible care, comfort and compassion as well as providing his family with support and love during this journey.

Such a gracious man. So much so, on his birthday, he truly did not want gifts, but instead would give gifts to his children. I always thought how incredible that was.
