George Martin Marsh, 81, of Birmingham and Honor, Michigan, passed away on August 5, 2025, surrounded by his family, following a lengthy battle with Parkinson's Disease and dementia.

George was born in Evanston, Illinois, on January 1, 1944, to Henry Golden Marsh and Elizabeth Martin Marsh. He grew up in Wilmette, Illinois, where he attended public schools and was a proud graduate of New Trier High School. Following high school, he attended DePauw University in Greencastle, Indiana, where his parents met and his sister Jean attended before him. Following graduation from DePauw, George went on to earn a Master's in Business Administration from Ohio University in Athens, Ohio.

George and his wife, Carol Harper Marsh, met in their sophomore year at DePauw and they were married shortly after graduation.

George began working for Ford Motor Company in 1968. He had a 32-year career at Ford in Finance and Purchasing. He particularly enjoyed the travel involved is his work in purchasing as the auto industry adopted more and more technology. He enjoyed travel to Asia and South America. Following retirement in 2000, he continued to be involved with automotive-related companies.

After retirement, George maintained his community involvement in a number of volunteer activities in Birmingham and Benzie County. He was an active volunteer at SCORE, BASCC, and the Birmingham Education Foundation. He also used his skills at the Benzie Area Christian Neighbors (BACN) and St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Beulah.

George loved tennis, golf and skiing. And, he especially loved them when he was joined by family members. Some of his favorite days were those spent doing any of these activities with friends and family, especially if it required discussion on the rules of golf.

George is survived by his wife of 59 years, Carol, his daughter Elisa Marsh Roovers (Dan), son John (Jay) Martin Marsh (Jennifer), his four granddaughters Lauren Roovers, Hailey Roovers, Mia Marsh, and Maggie Marsh, his nephew Bud King of Barrington, Rhode Island, his nephew Ryan Coyle, of Birmingham, and niece Elizabeth Kominski of Olney, Maryland. He was preceded in death by his parents, his sister Jean Marsh King and nephew Scott King.

George will be remembered for his dedication to family, his commitment to his community, and his love of a good - or even mediocre - round of golf. His warmth, infectious smile, sense of humour and generous spirit will be missed by those who knew him.

A Celebration of Life is planned for Saturday, October 18, at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church in Beulah, Michigan.
