MSgt William Paul Gantz; Ret., a dedicated serviceman and cherished family man, passed away peacefully on April 2, 2025, in Morehead City, NC, at the age of 89. Born on February 17, 1936, in Mount Ida, AR, he lived a life marked by service, devotion, and a profound love for his family and the great outdoors.
Mr. Gantz proudly served his country as an Aviation Mechanic in the United States Marine Corps, retiring with distinction as a Master Sergeant (E-8). After his honorable military service, he continued his professional career at Standadyne LLC, where he applied his skills and work ethic honed over years of committed service.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Bill (as he was known to those close to him) was a devoted family man who found joy in the simple pleasures of life. He loved to spend his time on the river, setting crab pots, collecting scallops, and fishing. The bounty of his efforts was often shared with family and friends through his passion for cooking, creating cherished memories around the dinner table.
A graveside service with military honors provided by the Unites States Marine Corps will be held on Wednesday, April 9th at 2:00 PM at the Coastal Carolina State Veteran's Cemetery of Jacksonville.
Bill was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Maria Paz Gantz, with whom he shared many happy years. He is survived by his sons, Joseph Gantz of Jacksonville and William "Michael" Gantz (Valeri) of Schererville, IN; his daughter, Maria Anne Gantz of Atlanta, GA; and his grandchildren, Nicole Bush (Jeff) of Houston, TX, and Brandon Gantz of San Antonio, TX, two great-grandchildren, Calvin Bush and Avery Bush, whose lives were brightened by his presence, and his special brother Tom Gantz and wife Medy of Oregon. A special family friend, support, and Eucharist Minister Julie Richards, held a significant place in his heart.
MSgt William Paul Gantz, "Bill", will be fondly remembered for his unwavering dedication to his family, his service to his country, and his love for life on the water. His legacy lives on in the hearts of those who knew and loved him.
