William Giffin Obituary

William (Bill) Wallace Giffin of Lima, Ohio, passed away of natural causes on Oct. 26, 2023. Bill was born on March 17, 1936, in Lima Ohio, the son of William D. and Erma Giffin. As a child, he moved with his family to many communities in Ohio following his father's career installing telephone cabling and network equipment throughout the state.
BIll graduated from Shawnee High School in 1954 and Ohio Wesleyan University in 1958 and married his high school sweetheart, Judith Ann Yingling that same year. They were married 65 years. Bill was the owner and co-founder of Giffin insurance, an independent agency he built with his dad over several decades. Bill served in the Ohio Army National Guard as an infantry officer and a commander of the 1st Battalion, 148th Infantry Regiment. He and his unit were called to active duty during periods of unrest in the 1970's, as well as during times of local crisis, and he was proud to serve his country and support the safety of Ohioans over his long career.
As a small business owner Bill was very active in his community. A gifted musician, he enjoyed singing in his church choir, the Lima Symphony Chorus, and as a featured soloist in the worship community for decades.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Judy Giffin. He is survived by his two sons, Bill and Mark Giffin, and six grandchildren. He attended South Side Christian Church in Lima, Ohio.

To the Giffin family, I wish to express my sincere sympathy in the loss of Bill. He was my insurance agent for several years. Our occasional visits at the office usually turned to remembrances about music and the former yearly event called the "Esteddfodd" which was held yearly ending in 1954. We were both participants as he was a student of Harold Beckett at Shawnee and I was a student of Doyt Yoakam at Lafayette-Jackson. A very special memory is of a breakfast with him, Harold Beckett, and myself at Ike's. My last meeting with him was selling some old coins at his home on Fort Amanda Road. I will miss those interesting conversations but will cherish the great memories.

Jeff and I are so sorry to hear of Bill´s passing. It´s hard to believe that Jeff and I have known Bill for 41 years. We both have kept in touch over the years. It was always interesting to talk with him and catch up on the latest family news. Bill was quite a character and never minced words. He told you just how it was and what was on his mind. Interesting enough, Jeff just spoke to Bill only a few days before Bill went to his Heavenly home. He will be missed. Rest in peace now Bill. You have now seen the face of Jesus!!!
