Randall & Roberts Funeral Center - Westfield Rd.William Charles Gross, 76, of Westfield, passed away on Sunday, November 16, 2025 at his home. He was born on April 14, 1949 to Robert and Norma (Burton) Gross in Chicago, Illinois.
William proudly served his country in the United States Army which led him to meeting his wife, Gerlinde. He earned a Master of Computer Science from DePaul University and spent his career as a computer engineer and college professor. He enjoyed spending time with his family, taking care of his home, and observing Catholic traditions. In his later years, William enjoyed photography, reading about his faith, learning about history, and playing chess with his grandchildren. And boy, he loved his sweets!
William is survived by his wife of 53 years, Gerlinde Gross (nee Hofmann); daughters, Christina Gross and Katherine (Jordan) Nuger; and his grandchildren, Joshua, Isaac, Levi and Caleb. William was the oldest of ten siblings. Surviving are his sisters, Patricia (Richard) Storck, Susan Gross, Margaret Gross, and Roberta Gross; brothers, Carl Gross, Peter Gross, and Philip Gross; sister-in-law, Renate (Klaus) Schroeder; numerous cousins; and several nieces & nephews.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister, Marie Bartlett, and his brother, Paul Gross.
Services will be held at St. Francis of Assisi Catholic Church, 1501 W Boughton Rd, in Bolingbrook, IL on Thursday, December 11 at 10:30am.
