William Powell 'Bill' Hale, age 81, of Metamora, Indiana died Thursday, September 4, 2025 at Bethesda North Hospital in Cincinnati, Ohio, following a brief illness.

Born July 22, 1944 in Olney, Maryland he was the son of the late William P. Jr. & Alice Rebecca (Fletcher) Hale. Bill graduated from Oak Ridge High School in Tennessee, and attended Transylvania University, and graduated from East Tennessee State University, and later earned his Masters Degree from Ball State University.

He was united in marriage on April 23, 1994 to Gretchen Beth Stuart, and she preceded him in death on August 9, 2023.

Bill & Gretchen enjoyed many adventures together having travelled 47 states and six continents. He was also an active participant in Civil War reenactments.

He retired from the Franklin County Community School Corporation, where he was an educator for over 33 years, having taught science, history, and geography. He was a proud resident of Franklin County for over 50 years.

He was a member of Boundless Ways of Grace Church in Metamora, the Franklin County Retired Teachers Association, National Education Association, as well as the Indiana State Teachers Association.

Survivors include a son, Stephen Hale of Norfolk, Virginia, a daughter, LeAnna Matsey of Lawrenceburg, Indiana, Indiana; siblings, Bruce Hale of Clinton, Tennessee, and Barbara Hale Brooks of Atlanta, Georgia.

In addition to his parents, and wife Gretchen, he was preceded in death by a brother, Byron Hale who died in January 2015.

A celebration of life will be held on Saturday, October 11, 2025, from 1 until 4:00 P.M., at Boundless Ways of Grace Church, 19054 Wynn Street, Metamora, Indiana.
