William Carter Hambley was a man of integrity, honor, and loyalty. He graduated from Indiana University School of Law. He met a nurse named Susan Byrley at UC Hospital while he was donating his kidney to his brother and fell in love. He was a legal aid attorney at AppalReD in Pikeville, KY before spending the rest of his career at Pro Seniors, Inc. He dedicated his life's work to legal aid, providing access to justice to the most vulnerable people. He represented older adults and their families. He helped his clients fight Medicare fraud and insurance companies' negligence and worked tirelessly to ensure that the elderly received the quality of care that we all deserve. Despite spending years seeing the worst corporate health insurance claim denials, he remained an idealist who believed both in the inalienable rights enumerated in the Declaration of Independence and the more broad rights inscribed in the UN Universal Declaration of Human Rights. He spent his career trying to ensure some of our nation's most vulnerable citizens, older adults who lacked the funds to hire a private attorney, retained the right to receive adequate medical care. He was also an incredible family man. He valued his work, but he valued his family more and it showed. He spent countless hours playing basketball, board games, and engaging in intellectual debates with his two children Jennifer and Benjamin. He attended ballet recitals, coached elementary school basketball, and loved to laugh and spend time with his family and his wife Susan. He bought his wife beautiful flowers and found just the right card for every special occasion. He did these things not as obligations but because he truly loved and valued his family. He loved to get up early on vacation to see the sunrise over the ocean with his kids. He loved planting trees and camping, and he valued the ecology of our Earth. He was an incredible man, and this world is darker without him here. Memorial Mass 11:00 AM Firday, June 20, 2025, Saint Mary of the Assumption Church, 8246 West Main Street, Alexandria, KY 41001. A reception will immediately follow Mass in the Undercroft.

Bill was such a positive influence in my life as I started my career. I wish I had taken the opportunity to clearly express that to him--but Bill was always insightful, and he knew.

Bill was a kind, generous and patient mentor. I will keep with me the many fond memories of long conversations and debates over obscure topics and, most of all, his sage advice.

I will dearly miss Bill. Many prayers going out for my good friend and his family.
