William Douglas "Billy" Hamm Jr., a beloved family man and devoted community member, passed away peacefully on July 21, 2025, in Liberty, Texas. Born on July 15, 1958, in Athens, Texas, Billy was the embodiment of love, faith, and dedication, leaving behind a lasting legacy in the hearts of all who knew him.
For 46 years, Billy shared his life with his loving wife, Cathy Hamm, creating a home filled with warmth and faith. Together, they raised a family that echoed his values of love and commitment to the Lord. He was not just a wonderful provider, but also a faithful servant, exemplifying the principles of hard work and integrity throughout his career. He was proud to serve as an operator at Lyondell Chemical Plant and took great pride in other roles as a firefighter/EMS, always ready to lend a helping hand.
Billy’s passion for life extended beyond his professional commitments. He had a love for the outdoors that shone through in his cherished moments spent duck and deer hunting with his family. Those experiences created beautiful memories, often filled with laughter and adventure, which he treasured greatly.
As a devoted father and grandfather, Billy took immense joy in supporting his children and grandchildren. He never missed an event that they participated in, and his unwavering presence brought a significant smile to their faces and his. He found unmatched happiness in watching his grandkids play, laugh, and achieve, reminding us all of the pure bonds of family.
Billy was predeceased by his father, William Douglas Hamm, Sr., his mother, Patricia Jackson Hamm, and his grandson, Jackson Hamm. They now welcome him into their embrace, but the impact he made during his time here will forever resonate with his family and friends.
He is survived by his wife, Cathy Hamm; son, William "Trey" Hamm, and his wife Kimberly; his daughter, Jennifer Scheffler, and her husband Joey; his sister, Leslie Parker; and grandchildren, Joei Scheffler, Carson Williams, Callie Scheffler, Kase Scheffler, Jake Scheffler, Emma Pasho, and Lila Hamm. He is also survived by his father-in-law and mother-in-law, Cecil and Delores Cunningham, who stand in testament to the deep connections he fostered throughout his life.
Billy’s faith was not just a part of his life; it was the cornerstone of who he was. A member of Hardin Methodist Church, he instilled the beauty of faith and community in his family, raising them with love and devotion that will carry on for generations to come.
His family invites all to join them in commemorating Billy’s rich life, with visitation on July 23, 2025, from 5:00 PM to 8:00 PM, and a funeral service on July 24 at 10:00 AM, both held at Hardin Methodist Church, located at 1005 FM 834, Liberty, TX 77575 officiated by Rev Jim Welch. Interment will follow at Hardin Chapel Cemetery.
Honoring Billy as pallbearers are Trey Hamm, Joey Scheffler, Carson Williams, Mike Hughes, Malcolm Harper and Jimmy Hamm. Honorary pallbearers are his Lyondell Family.
Billy's memory will be cherished by all who knew him, and his spirit will live on in the love he so freely gave. He leaves behind a legacy of love, service, and faith, reminding us all of the beauty of family and community. Though he may no longer walk among us, his guiding light will continue to shine in the hearts of his loved ones.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to the Hardin Methodist Church in honor of William Douglas "Billy" Hamm Jr.
