William was preceded in death by his father, Clearance Hammonds, and mother, Annie Neal Hammonds.
He is survived by one brother, Billy Hammonds (Barbara) of Lumberton, three sisters, Barbara Hammonds, Helen Hammonds, and Patty Harden (William) of Lumberton, and a host of nieces, nephews, and special friends.
William spent many years serving the Lord, reading his Bible, and witnessing to others. His love for the Lord and his testimony is evident in the poem he wrote, "Three Rusty Nails".

So sorry for your loss,I've always known William as a friendly person...I have known him for a very long time...he loved to talk about the Lord and witness to people about the goodness of God...he will be missed by many...keeping the family in my thoughts and prayers..praying for God to strengthen comfort you guy's though this difficult time...Barbara Helen Pat and Bill you guy's are in my thoughts and prayers may God give you all peace....praying that God will wrap his loving arms around you guy's and comfort you guy's with his love Amen thinking of you guy's and I love ya'll
