WILLIAM REID "Bill" HARTRICK

A Dedicated Husband, Father, and "Papa"

Canton – William Reid Hartrick, age 65, passed away peacefully at his home after a courageous battle with cancer on Tuesday, June 7, 2022. He was surrounded by those he loved and those who loved him.

Bill was born February 6, 1957 in Urbana, Illinois, to the late Paul Hartrick and the late Willmina Evans Hartrick.

Mr. Hartrick honorably served his country in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam era.

Bill recognized the importance of education and strove to be the best he could be in his field, graduating from Western Carolina University with a Bachelor's in Social Work. He had graduated cum laude honors, becoming a member of Pi Gamma Mu. Mr. Hartrick had been employed as a dedicated substance abuse counselor for many years, serving his community with his invaluable experience, knowledge, and trust.

Bill was gifted with a great personality and people were naturally drawn to him. He was blessed with many friends and acquaintances who will never forget him. He loved spending time outdoors, hiking with his wife and family among the mountains of Western North Carolina. Bill had a true interest in learning and becoming knowledgeable about new things. Astronomy piqued Bill's interest and he became very scholarly in this topic. His greatest love was his family. Bill enjoyed every moment with his wife, children, and grandchildren.

Leaving behind to cherish his memory are his loving wife and best friend of 42 years, Teresa Kastle Hartrick of Canton; daughter, Erica Hartrick-Shelton and husband Greg of Canton; son, James Hartrick and wife Ashely of Wilmington; grandchildren, Logan Willetts of Canton, and Samantha Hartrick of Wilmington; sister, Paula Hartrick Burwell and husband Dick of St. Joseph, Illinois; as well as several other family members and friends.

To honor Bill's wishes, family and friends are welcome to celebrate his life and share memories at the Hartrick residence at 103 Kuykendall Lane, Canton from 2:00 to 5:00 pm Sunday, June 12, 2022.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made in Bill's memory to Haywood Hospice which took such loving care of Bill these past several months at 13 Haywood Office Park Suite 107, Waynesville, NC 28785.
