William Lee Hatfield August 29, 1935 - September 7, 2025 It is with deep respect that we announce the passing of William Lee Hatfield, who died peacefully on September 7, 2025, at the age of 90. He was known as Bill to his family and friends. Brother Bill Hatfield, a devout and steadfast member of the Church of Disciples of Jesus Christ,
San Antonio, Texas. He was raised in a faith-based environment along with his siblings. Bill's spiritual foundation was laid early, and it became the compass that guided him throughout his life. His walk with the Lord was marked by humility, conviction, and a quiet strength that inspired all who knew him. Bill, originally from Mexico, Missouri, was the son of Glenn and Ruby Hatfield. He served in the U.S. Army for four years and subsequently dedicated nearly 40 years to his career as a driver with Merchants Fast Motor Lines, where he received multiple awards and earned the esteem of both colleagues and friends. He was a licensed CDL driver, skilled in operating both bobtail trucks and 18-wheelers with precision and care. Whether navigating long highways or local roads, he carried not just cargo, but a quiet sense of purpose and responsibility. His work behind the wheel was more than a job, it was a reflection of his steady hands, dependable spirit, and the journey of a life lived in service to others. While at church, Bill met the love of his life, and after a short period of courting, he entered Holy Matrimony with his lovely wife, Betty Hatfield. Their storybook relationship reached chapter "65" with love and harmony. The union was blessed with one daughter, whom they named Tara Hatfield. Bill was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, friend, and colleague. He led a life marked by quiet strength, generosity, and a commitment to service. He was always willing to assist friends and neighbors by readily taking on tasks such as plumbing, carpentry, or mechanical work, expecting little in return other than the opportunity to be helpful and serve others. In his leisure time, Bill found peace, joy, and serenity in his garden. With a true green thumb, he nurtured vibrant plants and flowers, creating a space of beauty and calm. Among his greatest joys was the deep love he shared with his only grandchild; her presence brought light and laughter into his life. Their bond was unbreakable, and her memory remained close to his heart. He leaves to cherish his memory his beloved wife, Betty, a faithful companion whose love reflected the grace of God; his daughter, Tara, who walks in the light of his example of being humble. Bill's memories are cherished by his dear brother, Don; four loving sisters, Lois Ann, Doris Dean, Mary Lou, and Alice; other loving relatives and friends like you. Bill will be greeted in Heaven by his Personal Savior, his granddaughter, Kaitlyn "Birdie" Ritnour, his beloved parents, and his kind-hearted four siblings, Glenn, Reba, Nancy, and Donna. And of course, his two wonderful pets, GiGi (poodle) and Lilo (Yorkie). Special Thanks, with deep appreciation, our family extend our heartfelt thanks to Summit Home Health and Hospice of San Antonio.
