Bill Hein, 69, of Pembroke Pines, FL, passed away on January 12th, 2025
following a brief, yet valiant fight against cancer (glioblastoma). He was
surrounded by his family at the time of his passing. The oldest of three siblings
and the only son, Bill was born to William and Mary (Dowling) Hein on June
14th, 1955 in Long Island, NY. Boisterous, loud, eclectic, and fiercely protective
of those he cared for; anyone who had the chance to meet Bill Hein knows that
the world mourns the loss of a truly unique and wonderful individual.
Bill was a proud 31-year veteran of the Miami-Dade Police Department in
which he served as Lieutenant. His noteworthy assignments include overseeing
Hurricane Charley disaster relief in North Florida (2004) and serving as
detective, then sergeant for the Domestic Crimes Unit (Child Exploitation Unit).
Bill was a two time recipient of the Silver Medal of Valor by the Metro Dade
Police Department and received several commendations before honorably retiring in 2013.
As a self-proclaimed 'beach bum', Bill enjoyed all things the ocean had to offer.
He was an avid fisherman and, despite his 6'2 200+lb frame, he was also a
remarkably talented water skier. Bill was most in his element while on a boat.
Bill was also called an 'extreme Parrot Head'. Having attended several concerts
over the years, Bill made sure to indoctrinate his daughters and grandsons in
the 'cult of Jimmy Buffett'. You would be hard pressed to not find him playing
deep cuts from Living and Dying in 3/4 Time or One Particular Harbor while
driving around town in his truck or on the boat.
Family was the most important thing in Bill's life. He was a dedicated husband
to Angela, his 'chica' and love of his life, with whom he spent 36 years of
married bliss. He was an involved and loving father to two daughters: Elizabeth
and Rebecca. Bill was also lovingly known as 'Pop' to his two grandsons: Zack and Tommy.
Bill is survived by his wife, Angela; sisters Mary (John) and Maureen (Larry);
daughters Elizabeth and Rebecca (Anthony);
and grandsons Zachary and Thomas Rowe.
Bill is also survived by his dog Daisy Duke and
predeceased by his dogs Toby and Quincy.
Visitation will be Thursday, January 16th, 5:00p - 9:00pm
with a Prayer Service at 7:00pm all at Landmark Funeral Home.
Funeral Mass of the Resurrection will be Friday, January 17th, 11:00am
at Nativity Catholic Church, 5220 Johnson Street, Hollywood, FL.

Claire and I were deeply saddened to learn of Bill's passing. Working alongside him on the Chaminade-Madonna Alumni Hall of Fame Committee was a privilege. His dedication for honoring alumni was inspiring. His contributions left an indelible mark on the entire C-M family. Please accept our heartfelt condolences during this difficult time. May your cherished memories of Bill bring you and your family comfort and peace as you move forward without him. May he rest in peace and may his memory be eternal.

Dear Angie, my deepest condolences to you and your children. I am shocked and saddened for you all. Bill was a longtime friend and work mate, we share a lot of activities together while I was in Florida, including his favorite and mine, water skiing. I have a number of pictures of Bill and all our friends from my time in Central District. I will make sure you get them. Bill stopped by at our place in Michigan while he was up for Dave's retirement. It was great to see him, we had some laughs and told stories from our work days. It was great to see him. May Bill Rest In Peace. - Sincerely, Tom Riley
