William "Bud" von Heyn, age 72, of Fort Myers, Fl, passed away peacefully on August 11th, 2024. Born on July 16th, 1952 in Flushing, NY. William was the beloved son of William Sr. and Jeanne (Birkett) von Heyn.
Bud grew up on Long Island in New Hyde Park, NY, the same hometown as his wife, Margaret (Maggie). He went on to attend college and receive a BS at Hobart College. It was there he met his wife in 1971, as she attended sister school William Smith. As Bud recalled, he "fell for Margaret on a long car ride home for Thanksgiving break " and he gave thanks for the next 50 years of their friendship and marriage.
Bud was a devoted husband, and loving father to three sons. He is survived by his wife and family - Brandon Evan of Pompano, FL, Ryan Edward and his wife Lauren of Newtown, CT, and Evan William of Pompano, FL. He was a proud "Pa" to granddaughters Madison Ryan and Layla Brooke von Heyn.
He is also survived by sister Carol (von Heyn) Passero. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Dr. Robert von Heyn. He was loved by many nieces, nephews, and other extended family, as well as by friends he called family. Bud cherished family above all else.
Bud and Margaret raised their family in Westchester, NY, where Bud had a successful 39-year career at AT&T. Outside of his professional accomplishments, Bud ran (6) marathons, received (2) Master's degrees, served as President of the Somers Lion's Club, was an active volunteer at Friends of Karen, and graciously witnessed (4) Red Sox World Series victories. He was a sports fanatic in every sense and treasured his memorabilia collection.
After retiring, Bud 'worked' wherever he could have fun - the Minnesota Twins Spring Training, Hudson Valley Renegades, Silver Spring Country Club, and Currie Landscaping with friend John (we think this was driven by the Walter 's hot dog lunch breaks!) He spent his free time perfecting his passion for golf with Maggie, where he recorded (2) "hole in one's", one in New York, and one in Florida earlier this year.
Bud will be remembered for all the lives he touched throughout his life's journey. He was kind to all, found humor in every moment up until his last breath, and had an emotional resilience and inner strength derived from a positive mindset, which encouraged those around him to focus on only the things they can control. He was everyone's best 'Bud' or 'Buddy'.

Bud's bonhomie was always welcome as he was a genuine soul with a great disposition. I met him at Silver Spring and always enjoyed discussing topical issues with him from sports to the economy. Saddened by his passing but feel fortunate to have known him. Undoubtedly, he'll be spending the majority of his time in the afterlife on heavenly golf courses. God bless!

Sad news . A fine man. A pleasure to greet and meet - great attitude: kind, friendly. The far best of all at the post throughout more than 40 years. What a good guy!
