William "Bill" Hill (Poppy), age 72, passed away peacefully on May 16,2025, in Spartanburg SC after a short battle with cancer. He was the son of David and Julia Hill from Gray Court, SC.
Bill spent much of his life devoted to his passions – family, tinkering, fishing, and church. A warm and charismatic man, Bill was known for his contagious smile, willingness to help people in need, and his ability to fix anything.
He found joy in the rustle of leaves beneath his boots, in the crackle of a campfire shared with friends and family, the hush of dawn breaking over a still lake or a sandy beach and cheering on Clemson Tiger football. For Bill, camping was not just a pastime-it was a sacred rhythm, a way to draw closer to the beauty of God's creation and the peace that only nature can offer. He believed that the wilderness spoke of something greater-that in every bird's song and in every mountain breeze, the Creator whispered, "You are loved."
His life was a testament to simple joys, quiet strength, and the deep faith that the world, in all its wild beauty, reflects divine love. His adventurous spirit was not just about going places-it was about how he went. With wonder. With courage. With reverence for the world and a deep love for those around him.
He served in the army and national guard for six years. He spent his professional career in various maintenance roles and eventually retired as a truck driver.
He will be deeply missed by his loving wife Martha, stepdaughter Stephanie Caddell (Josh) and his grandchildren (Elizabeth and Stephen) whom he adored.
A celebration of life service will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2025 at 2:00 pm at Lyman Methodist Church located at 106 Groce Rd. Lyman, SC 29365. The family will receive friends prior to the funeral from 12:30 – 1:30. All who knew Bill are welcome to attend and celebrate his life.
