William (Bill) Hiotis of Hoffman Estates, IL passed away peacefully on October 22nd 2025 at the age of 90. Bill was born in Sparta, Greece in November of 1934 to Eleni and George Hiotis and was an adored brother to the late Elias, Ulla (Livas) and Panagiotis. He came to America as a young man determined to work hard and create a better future for himself. He met Betty Panagiotopoulos while attending night school and was immediately smitten with her. They were married in 1961 and had two children Elaine Hiotis and Mary Stauner (Joseph "Joe").
Bill and Betty bought their first business, a successful hot dog stand that had the added perk of unlimited milkshakes. In 1977 he fulfilled his dream of returning to his beloved homeland of Greece where he bought a fruit market and the family lived there for four adventurous years. After returning to Chicago, Bill and Betty bought Sparta Grocery, where they worked non-stop and forged long lasting friendships within the Greek community before retiring and enjoying many years of fun travels. Bill is preceded in death by his dear wife Betty and survived by his beloved daughters, son in law Joe, granddaughter Jennifer, nieces and nephews, grand and great-grand nieces and nephews. His tireless work ethic, determination and resourcefulness was respected and admired and will be greatly missed by all.
Visitation will be Sunday 10/26/25 from 3:00 to 7:00pm at Ahlgrim & Sons Funeral Home, 330 W Golf Road, Schaumburg.
