William Howard Hogge, also known as "William, W.H., Will, and Bill", age 97, passed away peacefully on August 2, 2025, at his home in Hayes, Virginia. William was born April 8, 1928, to parents John Howard Hogge and Addie Jenkins. He graduated from Gloucester High School in 1946. He then served in the Army for 2 years, obtaining the rank of Master Sergeant. William always shared fond memories of his military career while stationed in Austria and Germany. After completing his military commitment, he returned to Newport News, Virginia, and worked at Newport News Shipbuilding in 1952. During this time, he met and married the love of his life, Aileen Welsh. Soon after, he was hired at Amoco Oil Refinery in Yorktown and worked there until he retired in 1989 as a Shift Superintendent. William was known for his strong work ethic and dedication to his family. His hobbies included woodworking, caning and refinishing furniture, antiquing, gardening, and caring for his home and property. William was a devoted husband to his wife, Aileen, who preceded him in death in 2012. He is survived by his children, daughter Rebecca Powell and husband Mike, and son John Hogge and wife Elise; grandchildren, Sarah Forest (Jason), Matthew Powell (Sarah), Lauren Bowman (Bert), and Marie Murray (Jonathan) and six great grandchildren: Luke, Eli, Annie, Everett, Lauren and Jacob. He is also survived by his sisters Barbara Lewis and Alice Hoadley. He especially treasured friendships and visits from two special friends, Jimmy Diggs and Jim Lamanna. The family will always be forever grateful to the wonderful caregivers with Ties That Bond, LLC who cared for Dad so very well. They became dear friends to him and the family. Our heartfelt thanks to April Eller and her staff!! The memorial service for family and friends will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, August 13, 2025, followed by a reception lunch at Gloucester Point Baptist Church at 7741 Terrapin Cove Rd, Gloucester Point, Virginia 23062.
