William Henry (Billy) Holmes was born January 29, 1939, to Homer and Earlene Holmes. He was the firstborn of a large family and grew up sharing a love of music with his siblings and cousins. He was wed to Evon Sherrill in 1962, started a family, and eventually made their home in Danville, Alabama. Billy served in the US Army and retired from Dunlop Tire. He enjoyed riding motorcycles and playing music, but his greatest joy was spending time with his grandkids. He passed away on May 23, 2025 in his home surrounded by those he loved.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Homer James Holmes and Maggie Earlene Carpenter Holmes, and siblings, Kenneth Ray Holmes, Helen Pirkle, Freddie Holmes, Carl Holmes, and Linda Holmes.
Survivors include his bride of 62 years, Evon Sherrill Holmes; son, Keith (Cathy) Holmes; daughters, Tammy (Ricky) Whitlow and Kelly (Chris) Floerkey; grandchildren, Alana Bridges, Andrea (Michael) Trimble, Sara French, Drew Holmes, Krista (Autumn) Hill, and Matt Floerkey; great-grandchildren, William Steven Bridges, Oakley Trimble, Clay Bridges, and Sawyer Trimble; and siblings: Carolyn (Curt) Lemaster, Franklin Holmes, David Holmes, Janice (Clyde) Goodwin, Vicky (Robert) West, and Connie (Terri) Holmes; and beloved cousin: Willene Carpenter, wife of the late Wayne Carpenter.
Pallbearers will be Keith Holmes, Chris Floerkey, Matt Floerkey, Michael Trimble, Jason Skinner, and David Holmes.
Honorary pallbearers will be his beloved great-grandsons, William Steven Bridges, Oakley Trimble, Clay Bridges, and Sawyer Trimble.
Visitation will be held at Peck Funeral Home in Hartselle, AL May 26, 2025, 6-8 and May 27, 2025, 11-12, followed by burial at Beulah Cemetery in Pinhook, AL.
