Howell - William Eugene Hoy of Howell, formerly of Cadillac, passed away on Saturday, October 4, 2025, at the age of 82.
Bill was born on July 30, 1943, in Detroit, Michigan, to Eugene and Ellen (Cory) Hoy. He entered into marriage with Kathleen Karen Stawasz on November 12, 1977, in Dearborn, Michigan. As a young man, he voluntarily joined the United States Army and proudly served during the Vietnam War. He was deeply honored to be a veteran and took great pride in his military service. Bill began his career with Michigan Bell as a lineman, advancing to become an engineer and later serving as an instructor before retiring after 24 years. Following retirement, he continued his work as a valued consultant.
Bill cherished time with his family and enjoyed traveling with his wife to Civil War memorials across the country. He loved bowling, golf, and family vacations, and he found joy in time spent with those he loved most. Bill was also a gifted storyteller, known for bringing his experiences to life with humor, detail, and heart. His family and friends cherished listening to him recount his adventures and memories - moments that always left them laughing, reflecting, and feeling closer together. He was active in his church community, where he volunteered his skills, and he took pride in lending a helping hand to family and friends with projects around their homes. In Cadillac, he was a proud member of the Knights of Columbus. For more than 20 years, he was actively involved, dedicated to serving and supporting his community.
Bill is survived by his loving wife of nearly 48 years, Kathy Hoy of Howell; his daughters, Gena Ellen Hoy of Howell, Tracey Elaine (Patrick) Carlson of Virginia, and Dawn Elizabeth Hoy of Howell; ten adored grandchildren; and three great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings Paul (Melanie) Hoy, Mary Ellen Hoy, Susan Carney, Joseph (Sherri) Hoy, Kathleen (Steve) Gass, and Thomas (Maureen) Hoy. He was preceded in death by his parents, Eugene and Ellen Hoy; his sister, Patricia Laube; and his nephew, John Laube.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Friday, October 10, 2025, from 3:00 to 7:00 PM at Watkins Brothers Funeral Home, MacDonald Chapel, located at 315 N. Michigan Avenue, Howell, Michigan. A rosary will be prayed at 6:30 PM. A Funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday, October 11, 2025, at 11:00 AM at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Howell, with visitation beginning one hour prior. Father David Stawasz will officiate.
