WILLIAM CAIN HUMBLE OBITUARY
On Tuesday, July 23, 2024, a soul winged its way to Heaven and William Cain Humble opened his eyes to see Jesus. Born to Tom and Verdie Cain Humble on October 11, 1936 at their ranch home in Sterling County, Bill lived his entire life of 87 years, 9 months and 12 days within one half mile of his birthplace. He attended Sterling City Elementary school and graduated from Water Valley High School where he was active in football, basketball and tennis. He then attended San Angelo Junior College for one year. After one year of college he turned his full attention to ranching and continued to do that until 2001 when he retired from ranching and became a Field Technician for the Sterling County Underground Water Conservation District. He held this position until he was seventy five years old and developed health issues leading him to retirement.
On Nov. 5, 1955, he married his high school sweetheart, Barbara (Pinkey) Fincher, of Carlsbad and they established a home on the ranch where he resided for the next 68 years, 8 months and 23 days. Three daughters were born to this union.
Bill was a Christian first and a great husband and "girl dad". He loved the time spent with the girls during their years of stock shows. He was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church, Sterling City and was ordained as a deacon in 1969. He served on the Sterling City School Board for fifteen years and was a longtime member of the Texas Sheep and Goat Raisers, and the Texas and Southwest Cattle Raisers Association. He was instrumental in organizing the Sterling County Underground Water Conservation District and served on its board for many years. His talent really lay in his ability to figure out how to build all the things Pinkey and his daughters came up with that they thought they needed and to find a solution to repair things that were thought to be unrepairable.
Then came the grandchildren, the great grands and even a great, great grand. Having the first grandson was especially fun for him after dealing with three daughters. He loved having all of them around and was so proud of all the accomplishments the grandkids made.
Survivors include his wife, Pinkey, his daughters, Amy Green, Susie Gibson (Clay), June Bell (Matt Matthews). Grandchildren and spouses: Lance Rodriguez (Pam), Lindsey Rodriguez Harmon (Jay), Jenna Davidson Hightower (Dustin), Will Davidson (Danah), Caylee Gibson Schellhase (Jordan). Great grandchildren: McKenzi and Brooklyn Griffith, Regan Rodriguez, Kelton and Mason Hightower, Lilly and Claire Davidson, Mattie Sue Schellhase, Ty and Brent Harmon, Loren Frolich, Riley Bell and great, great grandson Brently Harmon, Sister-in-law Sue Fincher Morris (Jeff). A number of cousins, nephews and nieces survive as well.
He was preceded in death by his parents, sisters Marjorie Humble Augustine and Lora Humble Rawlings.
A Celebration of Life will be Saturday, July 27, at First Baptist Church, Sterling City at 2:00 pm. Visitation will follow in church fellowship hall.
Honorary pall bearers will be Charlie Stevens, Bruce Myrick, Melvin Freeman, Shorty Radde, Larry Horwood, and Scooter McCaleb.
Memorials may be sent to Montvale Cemetery Association, P.O. Box 833, Sterling City, Texas 76951
Bill left his earthly life due to complications from a fall in his home. He had lived a full and blessed life and was ready for his Heavenly Home. He loved and was loved by many and he will be missed.
