Obituary published on Legacy.com by Bradley Funeral Home - Marlton on Nov. 6, 2024.
William F. Hyland, Jr. Esq., affectionately known as Bill, went home to be with the Lord on November 5, 2024 after a long battle with cancer while surrounded by his loving family. Born on September 30, 1947, Bill's journey through life was marked by dedication, love, and service. He leaves behind a legacy that beautifully intertwines family, faith, and community.
Bill was a devoted husband to his wife of 55 years, Deborah A. Hyland (nee Warner), and a loving father to his son, Christopher Todd Hyland and his wife, Jennifer, and daughter Amy Elizabeth Cappuccio and her husband, Robert. His role as a grandfather was one he cherished deeply, and he will be fondly remembered by his grandchildren Madison, Olivia and her husband Matthew, Caroline, Patrick, Isabel, and his great-grandson Graham. He shared a special bond with his siblings: Nancy Hyland Wiley and her husband Raymond, Stephen Hyland, Emma McCormick and her husband Daniel, Margaret Hyland and her husband James Frank, and Thomas Hyland
and his wife Joanne as well as his many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Bill's academic journey was as impressive as it was impactful. A proud alumnus of the Mother of the Savior Seminary High School's class of 1965 in Blackwood, he went on to earn his Bachelor's Degree from LaSalle University and his Law Degree from Rutgers Law School. His educational pursuits paved the way for a distinguished career and an enduring commitment to justice and mentorship.
Professionally, Bill began his career in Sparta, NJ, as the Assistant Township Manager where he eventually became Township Manager. During his time as Township Manager Bill began to realize he was sitting on the wrong side of the desk. It was at this point in Bill's career that he decided to move his growing family from Sparta to Collingswood and enroll at Rutgers Law School.
His legal acumen and dedication to the law led him to become a respected Attorney and partner at Brandt, Haughey, Penberthy, Lewis, and Hyland Law firm, and later at Hyland, Levin, and Shapiro Law Firm in Marlton. His professionalism and integrity were hallmarks of his storied career.
Beyond his professional life, Bill was an individual of varied interests. An avid golfer, he found joy and relaxation on the greens. Music was also a very big part of Bill's life. In the early 2000's Bill auditioned for and became a member of the famed Brooklyn Tabernacle Choir for three years where he was part of two Grammy winning albums. During this time he was also the Choir Director
at Wiley Church in Marlton.
Bill's service extended to the boardroom as a member of the Virtua Foundation and as a proud supporter of Bancroft Neurohealth. His faith played a central role in his life; he was an active member of Wiley Church where he attended for over 34 years. He also served on the Board of Trustees of Wiley Mission for many years eventually serving as its Chairman from 2016 until his death.
Bill and Debbie's shared love for travel saw them visit Europe and Africa, as well as exploring the vast beauty of the United States and creating memories in their beloved RV with their two Irish Setters. Bill's wife Debbie spent many years with his family as a mother's helper at the Hyland's shore house in Sea Isle and then later in life with their own young children and his siblings at his parents home in Avalon.
Bill's impact on the lives he touched is immeasurable. His wisdom, kindness, and "witty sense of humor" will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him. As we bid farewell to a man of such remarkable character, we take solace in the knowledge that his legacy will continue and we will see him again in Heaven.
Relatives and friends are invited to the visitation on Saturday November 16 at Wiley Church from 9-11am where a Memorial Service will start at 11am Saturday. Interment will take place privately and at the convenience of the family at Lakeview Memorial Park, Cinnaminson.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Bill's memory to one of 3 charities - Wiley Mission or the Virtua Foundation or The
