William Jefferson

William "Bill" Jefferson 89, of Harrisburg passed peacefully with his family at his side on July 18, 2025. He was the son of the late Leroy Jefferson and Margaret (Washington) Jefferson. He was an Auditor for the Commonwealth of PA Comptroller's Office where he was the first Black man to hold a high-level position. He was a graduate of Lincoln University with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration with a minor in accounting. William was a member of the Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, he was awarded the 2021 Founders Lifetime Achievement Award, Kappa Omega chapter of Harrisburg, PA, and past officer of Kappa Omega's Executive Board. He served over 20 years honorably in the U.S. Army and PA Army National Guard. William enjoyed collecting and listening to jazz music, dancing, watching soap operas, and spending time with family. Along with his parents, he is preceded by siblings Leroy Jr., Eugene, Bernard, and Arlene Jefferson. He is survived by his children William, Kia, and Dana Jefferson, nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.
