William G. Kunkel, Jr., 93, of Toms River, NJ, passed away Sunday, October 6, 2024. Born in Jersey City, he moved to Piscataway and Cranford, before settling in Ocean County for 24 years. William was the Secretary of The Home Insurance Company in New York City. e was a US Army Korean War Veteran and attended St. Justin the Martyr RC Church, Toms River.
William had a great sense of humor and always made people laugh. He had many skills and hobbies, which included installing beautiful landscaping for his homes, growing roses, renovating a home in Cranford from 1880; creating fresh and salt water aquariums, at the end focusing on mainly, Discus fish. He loved spending time with his family at Lake Hopatcong and Long Beach Island, NJ. He enjoyed crabbing and was an avid bowler. He loved his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
William is survived by his three daughters Susan Kunkel of Brick, NJ, Nancy Carter and her husband Gerald of Piscataway, NJ, Diane Spangler and her husband Joseph of Toms River; five grandchildren Alex, Dennis, Billy, Joseph and Scott and three great grandchildren Kaiden, Austin and Evan.
A celebration of life/memorial gathering will be held Sunday, October 13, 2024 12 pm- 2 pm with a funeral service with Father Mark offered at 1:15 pm at the Timothy E. Ryan Home for Funerals, 995 Fischer Blvd., Toms River, NJ. A repass will follow. In lieu of flowers, please donate to Tunnel to Towers Foundation or Samaritan Purse Church.
