William L. "Bill" Schlitter

William L. "Bill" Schlitter Obituary

William Leo Schlitter, age 80, died in Aurora, CO, on March 26th, 2025. Born in Minneapolis, MN, on April 2nd, 1944, he and his father, Buck, mother, Laverne, and brother, James, moved to Colorado in 1957.

He entered the Denver Police Academy in December of 1969 and served 32 years with the Denver Police, retiring in 2002. During his time with DPD, he received many commendations and was well respected by his peers.

In his spare time, Bill loved fishing, building models, watching & reading westerns, and spending time with his family. He was an avid collector of beer memorabilia, NASCAR, Marilyn Monroe items, and hummingbirds, to name a few. He was also an active member of the Rocky Mountain Beer Club.

He is survived by his 3 children: Kirsten Bortz (Mike), Suzanne Robertson, and William Schlitter (Julie), 3 stepsons: Jeremy (Cheryl), Joseph (Angel) and Joshua McBeain (Angela), 12 grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren, his sister Kathy Burke, Stepmom Marcy Schlitter and loving dog, Ralphie.

He was preceded in death by his parents Buck and Laverne, his brother James, his beloved wife Rebecca Ann Schlitter, son-in-law Bradley Robertson, and great grandson Carter Allan McBeain.

Memorial Services will take place at Horan and McConaty Parker Chapel at 11150 E Dartmouth Ave, Aurora, CO 80014 on Saturday May 3rd, 2025, at 1:00 PM with a reception to follow at Heartlight Center. In lieu of flowers, please donate to one of Williams' favorite charities:

The Audubon Society, Children's Hospital Foundation, Sloppy Kisses Animal Rescue, or Childhood Leukemia Foundation.
