William "Bill" LaPier (76) passed away peacefully on June 5, 2025, with his loving family by his side, after a brave battle with cancer.
Born in 1948 in Plattsburgh, New York, Bill was the son of William and Ann LaPier. He grew up in Chazy, NY, and went on to earn a degree in Commercial Art from Dutchess Community College. A Navy veteran, Bill served aboard the USS Enterprise during the Vietnam War. He later built a long and fulfilling career with IBM in Vermont.
Bill was well known for his gentle, kind, and funny personality, proudly boasting that his greatest lifetime achievements were his family. He never cared much for material wealth; but considered himself truly rich because of the love and closeness he shared with his family.
Bill is survived by his beloved wife, Rita, and their three children: Renee Morse (with her husband Richard), Katherine LaPier, and Michael LaPier (with his wife Katherine Matterson). He was a proud and devoted grandfather to Isabelle, Hailey, and Samuel Morse, and to Leif Barnes; each one holding a special place in his heart.
He is also survived by his siblings: Rodney LaPier, Alan LaPier, Judy Dupee, and Thomas LaPier, along with many in-laws, nieces, nephews, and extended family who loved him dearly.
Bill had an enduring love for music, amassing a collection that numbered in the thousands. His den was his happy place, music turned up, a smile on his face, completely in his element. He was a gifted artist and a devoted husband, father, grandfather, son, brother, uncle, and friend. His spirit will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests donations be made to Suncrest Hospice or the Sarcoma Foundation of America.
You are invited to a celebration of his life, to be held at Bill and Rita's home on Saturday, June 21st, from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m.
