William Fred Lloyd, Sr.

It is with saddened hearts the family of Mr. William “Fred” Lloyd, Sr., 86, announce his passing. He went to be with his Lord and Savior on October 9, 2025 while at McLeod Hospice House.

Funeral service will be held Sunday, October 12, 2025 at 4:00 at Elim Methodist Church, Oates Community, Lamar, SC. Rev. Andy Williams, Rev. Edward Herlong, and Mr. Jimmy Blackmon will officiate. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service in the church sanctuary. Burial will follow the service at Elim Methodist Church Cemetery directed by Norton Funeral Home.

Mr. Lloyd was born in Lamar, a son of the late Mr. Laurie Matthew Lloyd and Mrs. Edith Louise Register Lloyd, and married the love of his life, Peggy Dennis Lloyd, on December 21, 1957. He was a member of Elim Methodist Church, where he served as the Chairman of the Administrative Council for many years. He retired from Sonoco Products Company after 43 years of dedicated service where he was Pilot, Polysack, and Edgeboard Plant Manager, and a member of the Old Timers Club. While he was employed at Sonoco, he also enjoyed farming. Mr. Lloyd was an avid quail hunter, loved to crappie fish, play golf, and travel. He loved his horses and dogs. He was a faithful Christian, a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and enjoyed spending time with his family. His great-grandchildren always brought a special joy to him. He was affectionately known as “Pop” by family and many others.

In addition to his parents, Mr. Lloyd was preceded in death by his brother, Gerald Lloyd and sister, Linda Clements. Surviving Mr. Lloyd are his wife of 67 years, Peggy Lloyd; his brother, Richard Lloyd and sister-in-law, Connie Lloyd; Children: Cheryl (Jimmy) Blackmon, Freddie (Cyndie) Lloyd, Toby (Gaye) Lloyd, and Brad (Angel) Lloyd; Grandchildren: T.C. (Jessica) Lloyd, Erin (Michael) Wolfe, Jamie Blackmon, Clay (Brittney) Lloyd, Breanne (Cuyler) McAuliffe, Caroline (Michael) Smith and Chase Flinchum; Great-grandchildren: Jaymack Lloyd, Grant Lloyd, Ellis Lloyd, Mac Wolfe, Grey Lloyd, Rhett Wolfe, Sawyer McAuliffe, Bowen Wolfe, Carsan (CC) Lloyd, Layton Smith and Avery McAuliffe; and nieces and nephews that he loved dearly. The family would like to thank the staff at The Retreat at Carolina Bay for their support and care over the last few years, and the unending love from our family and friends. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Elim Church, 3900 Oates Hwy, Lamar, SC 29069.
