William Maddox Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Gray Memorial Chapel & Crematory on Dec. 16, 2025.
William Robert Maddox, lovingly known to many as a devoted husband, father, nandaddy, and friend, passed away on December 13, 2025, at the age of 80. A visitation for family and friends will be Tuesday, December 16, 2025, at Gray Memorial Chapel at 1:00 PM with a memorial service to follow at 2:00 PM. Rev. Chuck Beaver will officiate. Burial will follow at Gray Memorial Gardens "At Cedar Ridge".
Mr. Maddox was born in Dodge County, Georgia, the son of the late Elder Elijah J. Maddox and Amanda Mary Moore Maddox. He was a graduate of Dodge County High School and proudly served his community through his career with the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department, from which he retired, January 27, 2006, at the rank of Lieutenant after serving the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department for thirty-five plus years of dedicated service.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 60 years, Sandra Kay Maddox; his brothers, James, Junior, Jack, Marvin, and Roger Maddox; and his sisters, Minnie Lee Rowland, Florence Thomas, and Lorine Johnson.
Left to cherish his memory are his daughters, Shelia Maddox Payne (Keith) of Twiggs County and Amanda Maddox of Jones County; his grandchildren, William Kody Payne (Maggie) and Kayce Lazelle Payne, both of Twiggs County; and his great-grandchildren, Juliette Payne and Kayde Payne. He is also survived by his brothers, Gene Maddox (Carol) and Bill Maddox of Jones County; his sisters-in-law, Grace Maddox Mullis, Ruby Maddox, and Peggy Naugle Maddox; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
William was a man of great intelligence, generosity, and analytical thinking. He was humble, determined, loving, and unwaveringly supportive of those he loved. He lived his life intentionally, always placing his family first in everything he did. He kept up with everyone in the family, community and was always there when he was needed.
He loved the Lord deeply and cherished his family above all else. He also had a special place in his heart for his dog, Bandit, whose photo proudly served as his screensaver. William enjoyed following the stock market, watching football, and discussing finances, politics and pursuits that reflected his sharp mind and thoughtful nature.
Above all, William Robert Maddox will be remembered as a loving husband, devoted father, proud nandaddy, and faithful family man whose presence brought strength and comfort to those around him. His legacy of love, faith, and dedication will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
