William Edward McEnerney Jr, age 97, passed peacefully on May 2, 2025 with his family at his side at home in Delaware, OH. He was born on April 7, 1928 in Bay Ridge, Brooklyn, NY to William Edward Sr and Loretta (Gallagher) McEnerney. He graduated from Brooklyn Prep High School and enlisted in the Marine Corps at age 17. He was awarded a Purple Heart for his service during the Korean War and was one of the last survivors who had participated in the Chosin Reservoir Campaign in North Korea.
He studied Civil Engineering at Manhattan College in New York City, and later transferred to Marquette University in Milwaukee, graduating from Marquette in 1952 with a B.S.C.E.
After college, he was hired by Turner Construction Co. and worked for them for 40+ years in six different states, retiring in 1993 as Operations Manager of the Columbus, OH office. After that retirement he formed his own construction consulting firm, working primarily on hospital construction throughout the eastern and southeastern U.S.
He married the love of his life, Virginia (Simmons) at St Francis of Asisi Church in Staunton, VA on July 16, 1955. They were a perfect match of city boy and country girl, and were married for 64 years.
He enjoyed watching movies with his longtime friends, jigsaw puzzles, a Thursday afternoon cocktail, walking at Mingo Park, and Saturday Vigil Mass at St Mary in Delaware.
He is predeceased by his beloved wife of 64 years, Virginia; his parents William Edward Sr and Loretta McEnerney; and his sister Loretta (Sister William Loretta of the Sisters of Charity, Halifax, Nova Scotia) and his son-in-law Jeff Beitel.
He is survived by his three children Patricia Lyons, Edward, and Diane Beitel; his stepdaughter Jean (Frank) D"Aquino; his five grandchildren: Jeremy Lyons, Andrea (Chris) Hughes, Shannon Beitel, Brittany (Ben) Corbitt, and Stephanie (Max) Carroll; his step granddaughter Christine D'Aquino; and six great-grandchildren.

NOT ALWAYS GOOD ENOUGH.
GOD BLESS YOU."
